Week in Review - April 13, 2025

👽 Personal

  • I've been taking a break from my phone/internet on the weekends recently, and it's been fantastic. I take off my Apple Watch when I get home Friday, and it remains on the charger until Sunday evening, so I don't get any notifications. I barely check my email and only occasionally peek at RSS, and instead I spend my time a bit more wisely. There is enough time during the week to squeeze in browsing and whatnot, I really need to maximize my time off.
  • I'm actually watching less of the UFL than I did last year, and I'm really wondering if the spring football experiment is over. I mean, it was already stupid to wait a month to start the season after the Super Bowl, and then to put it head-to-head with March Madness, but the gameplay seems to not be improving like it has in the past as the season moves along. I like a little football fix all year around, but they need to step it up a bit and not feel like they are on the verge of collapse at all times. It's such a shame, that half season of AAF was the peak spring football experience, and that was five years ago. The NFL needs a minor league, but I really think they are going to have to get more involved to make something like that happen. Maybe bring back the WFL.
  • I'm going to dip my toe back into using Bluesky some this week. I'm approaching it very slowly, and we will see if this is something I want to use or not.
  • Ya know, I've heard the whole "wear sunscreen" comments since high school since that was around the time the song came out. But why didn't anyone ever say moisturize? About seven years ago in my mid-thirties, I realized I didn't want to look like my dad as I got older, so I began a very basic skin care regime for my face (just a CerVe cleanser and lotion) and it's been amazing. However, I didn't bother applying lotion or a moisturizer to anywhere else other than my hands. I've struggled with dry feet for years, and I've purchased just about every product on the market, not to mention moisturizing socks and a foot spa, but there were all short term fixes or flat-out failures. A couple of months ago, I began taking a quick squirt of the CeraVe pump lotion and applying to my feet after I shower and before I go to bed, and within a week my feet healed up, stop catching on the sheets, and all that good stuff. It literally takes me like ten seconds to do it and the results are amazing. This is the type of information folks need to hear as young people! Now, I'm being more intentional about lotioning up my elbows.

🏋️Healthy Living

  • Friday night, I put together my new adjustable weight bench. I bought a cheap $75 bench from Amazon, and while it's not the most sturdiest bench in the world, it will do fine for what I need right now. On Saturday, I tried it out, and it was my first time benching anything in an incline in over twenty years. I noticed immediately I needed to drop my weight, but I still wasn't sure how effective it truly was. That all changed Sunday morning when my arms were sore, and I realize despite using a flat bench the last few months, the incline was definitely working some different areas of my arm.
  • I discovered a new YouTube channel that features lots of calorie friendly recipes, and on Sunday I made his cheese pizza recipe. OMG it was amazing. As a pizza lover, this is a game changer for me. Currently, I have his birthday cake Ninja Creami recipe freezing in my freezer. I can't wait to try it out.
  • Switching to the Lose It app has been an amazing experience. For example, I wanted to log the protein of the cheese pizza mentioned above. There is actually a place to just paste the recipe and the app matches it with ingredients listed, and the macros came out perfect. I was so impressed.

📺 Watched (A Glimpse at Some of the Stuff I Watched)

  • Final Destination 3 - One of my least favorite films in the series, Final Destination 3 still offers fun with it's whacky deaths. It's definitely hurt by the mid 2000's CGI it relies on and a very weak cast, but it's still a fun watch.
  • Singled Out (Multiple Episodes) - Thanks to YouTube and Archive, I found half a dozen episodes of Singled Out, the MTV dating show from the 90s to watch. I LOVED this show when I was a teenager, and well... hell, I love it as an adult. It's obnoxious, yet fun, like MTV used to be.
  • Daredevil: Born Again (S1 E7-8) - I finally caught up on Daredevil and wow is it firing on all cylinders. I must admit, I was very skeptical if Daredevil would live up to the Netflix series, but I feel that it has.
  • American Dad (S1 E1) - I'm not much of a Seth McFarlane fan, but I'm always impressed with TV shows last twenty years. I recently read an article about American Dad's move to TBS, how it originated in The Family Guy's cancellation, and it's subsequent renewal at Fox, and I guess I was interested in seeing what the show was really about. The first episode which aired in February 2005 is full of George Bush angst and a couple of pop-culture references. It doesn't feel nearly as dated as The Family Guy however, and it's much more palatable. I'm not sure if I'd watch any more of it, but kudos to all of those involved for two decades worth of work!
