Week in Review - April 6th, 2025
👽 Personal
- Well... I wrote a little blog about being sick of the internet and it sorta blew up. I received more emails regarding that post, than any post I've ever written. It's interesting how varied the opinions I heard about the internet were, although I will say most of them were people agreeing that the internet is no longer the fun place it once was.
- I am tired. I've never worked a job where I walked into to quite this sort of mess. Usually, if something is screwed up, I just buckle down and go as hard as I can till I get it caught up and fixed. Sadly, this isn't possible with this size of mess. I've been going as hard as I can for eight hours a day for the past two and a half weeks, and I've barely scratched the surface. There is no end in sight, and that's hard for me to process. It also doesn't help that I'm still learning elements of the job and my supervisor is remote and still learning herself. Mentally, this may not be the best job for me, but I'm going to stick with it for the time being. I'm just grateful to be employed, but I am very tired. Pacing myself is going to be key.
- I dabbled a bit with Ghost and Wordpress this week thanks to Pikapods. My problem with Ghost is always the themes. I don't like the free ones all that much, and I'm just not willing to spend the asking price of most of their themes. This led me to Wordpress, where I experimented with a couple of ideas.
- I've also been reading some of my blogs from early 2020, trying to see what made them so special to me, and why I look back so fondly on that period. I've come to a couple of conclusions:
- 1. At the time, I cut myself a ton of slack. After years of studying Buddhism and searching for peace, I decided to just stop and in doing so, I found a bit of peace. I think I've stressed myself out again looking for meaning and purpose in life.
- 2. I cut out negative media. I was watching things like The Good Place, Psych, and Community. Light-hearted and fun TV shows, that weren't overly deep nor mean spirited. I've written in the past how much the media I consume can affect me, and while I haven't been watching much lately, I do think that maybe I need to set some firmer boundaries on what I watch and how I spend my time, especially if it's going to affect my mental health.
- 3. I was hopeful. This was right before COVID, and I was in a new relationship, saving money for a house, and feeling good about myself. I'm not sure if I can ever get this feeling back.
🏋️Healthy Living
- This was my worse week fitness-wise in some time. I kept my calories in check, but my workouts did not go as well. I took additional days between them, and I just lacked the energy and mental capacity to push myself into doing them to my best. I did finish up my final workout in my program this morning, though, so that felt good to accomplish.
- The Conners (S7E2) - A meh episode of The Conners. I was hoping for a series of homeruns these final episodes, but historically the show doesn't usually have that many great episodes back-to-back.
- The Accountant - Rewatched this film for the first time in several years, and I really enjoyed it. I made the mistake of watching the trailer for the sequel right after, which looks almost like a spoof of the first movie. I'm not sure where all the humor comes in, but I'm hoping it's just a badly edited trailer since it features the same screenwriter and director.
- Everybody Loves Raymond (S5) - One night, I watched three episodes. That was the only thing I watched until the weekend.
- A Knight's War - This super low-budget medieval horror movies was way better than I expected. The effects were great, the costumes even better, and the acting was solid.
